We have been working on two assignments in this unit, learning to make white white and black black in the camera and then photographing Equivalent Exposure. There is a lot to learn all at once, and I understand it can be confusing. All I am concerned about at this point is that you are making progress. Learn what each camera setting does, how the light meter in the camera works and understanding the language of photography with the vocabulary terms. As you make mistakes (we all do), learn from them. An A is earned by making mistakes and then correcting them. Photograph a lot, analyze the good and bad and then use that information to improve.
All of the assignments can be found on our class Canvas website... click on the link found here on the Assignments tab. We began a review for the semester final. You can find a helpful review sheet here.
ALL LATE WORK MUST BE TURNED IN BY 3:00 THURSDAY, DEC. 13! The final assignment (Free Choice Image) is due on Dec. 17. The portrait project is due today! Make sure to turn in one male and one female portrait, sized correctly for printing! Make sure to have your folders in order so that I can find your complete project.
Your last assignment this semester will be a free choice image. Make this your best photograph that you have ever made! NO SNAPSHOTS WILL BE ACCEPTED! These must be well thought out and executed photographs. The assignment is due on Dec. 17. Introduction to Portraiture. Here are some links to websites discussing portrait photography that you should read BEFORE photographing for the assignment! Also look at a lot of portrait photography on the internet and in magazines. The more familiar you become with photographers and techniques used, the better your photography will become.
Photo.net 22 Portrait Tips Portrait examples We also did a review for the quiz that you will take on Monday. Today's assignment: Answer the following questions and turn in. 1. Define Portraiture (Portrait Photography) 2. Lighting is critical in portraiture (as it is in all photography). When searching for or creating the lighting for a portrait, what things must be considered? In other words, what does lighting do in portraiture? 3. Describe each of the following approaches to portraiture: a. Constructionist b. Environmental c. Candid d. Creative 4. What lens considerations should be made for portraiture? 5. What exposure considerations should be made when creating a portrait? Today I formally introduced the Depth of Field assignment which is due on October 12. Check the pdf file for specific instructions. Do not procrastinate your photographing for this assignment. It is really beneficial to photograph each subject with both long and shallow DOF (small and large apertures) so that you get a feel for what subjects are best for each. With some practice you will be able to judge before shooting what aperture will be best.
Quiz day! Review Bracketing and Camera Shake. Photographed for Bracketing assignment. Must photograph 4 scenes with the following exposure values, in order: Normal, N+1, N+2, N-1, N-2.
Learned about bracketing exposures and then practiced. Photographed 5 scenes, each with a normal exposure, and then bracketed at n+1, n+2, n-1 and n-2. At least one scene must be a portrait in the shade, one scene high contrast, one of dark subject matter and one light subjects.
Review Equivalent exposure and practiced it. Assignment: Photograph 10 subjects or scenes, each three times with different but equivalent exposures. This was completed in class.
Introduced BDE (Basic Daylight Exposure) and the Sunny 16 Rule. Discussed Equivalent Exposure.
Assignment today is to photograph four scenes four times each Reviewed camera settings and memory card formatting. Learned the parts of the camera. Camera parts WILL BE TESTED! Demonstrated how the meter works and then went outside and photographed, returned and downloaded the images. File structure (where to put your images) was demonstrated. I WILL NOT SEARCH FOR YOUR ASSIGNMENTS! If they are not where they are supposed to be, I will not grade them!
