Think about this quote and write a paragraph discussing what you think Edward means. Do you agree? Explain your view and defend it. After you have written about the quote, look up information about Edward Steichen and tell me what you find. Who is he? Why is he important in photography? Read the article Sunshine & Noir. A gallery of images to accompany the article can be found here. After reading the article, on the paper provided write a summary. On the back side of the paper, tell me what you learned from the article that can help you become a better photographer. Stay on task as you will be given 30 minutes to complete this assignment.
Today we will go deeper into the concept of Contemplative Photography. Do a search online for images made using this technique. Read the following Ken Rockwell article and then we will discuss its meaning. After class discussion, we will again go outside to create photographs.
Your next project is to search for photographs during your everyday life, and take them! We will be photographing at school for some of these, but your homework is to spend at least one hour photographing Introduction to Contemplative Photography. Take notes as this material may be found on a test. We then will go outside and practice the concept by making photographs around campus. Look and feel first, photograph second. Your images will be much stronger if you follow these ideas. Color Shootout competition. Try to find images illustrating good use of color. It may be a challenge with all of the snow! The images made today can be used for your Color assignment.
Remember, your color photographs are due next class period. You need to have images illustrating all three color schemes that we discussed... Complementary, Analogous and Monochromatic. |
