Just got back from a "Photo Walk" this evening (Thursday), and, if you didn't get out, well, I'm sorry. It was a beautiful evening to out. The images below are just a few of what I found on my walk. I hope you are taking advantage of the great weather to photograph some color! For class today, if you haven't done the color research and sent it to me, then please finish that. It should only take a few minutes. After that is in, I want you to take your own "Photo Walk." Go make some pictures! That is your whole assignment for today. Make at least 30 photographs, emphasizing your chosen color. Get in close. Blur the background. Make your color pop. Most of all, have some fun! I want you to share your best three with me by the 14th. If you need assistance for anything from getting Lightroom to work to making and editing pictures, message or email me. We can chat over Remind or schedule a Zoom call. It's been a great start to our Distance Learning experience. About 75% of us have shared an album. The rest of us need to get that done ASAP so I can become aware of any technology problems we may be having and get them fixed. That is our immediate goal.
A new project has been posted in the Assignments section. This project is all about Color, and has a due date of April 15. Please do the research part today/tomorrow and then take your "Photo Walk(s)" between Friday and Monday. Also in Assignments, I have added a Sidebar with resources for class. I will continue adding resources as they are needed and I get them created. During class the next couple of days, I am open for individual conferencing/troubleshooting/demonstration via Zoom for any that want/need a little extra help. Just message me and I can set it up. There will also be an open Q&A Zoom during the first part of class. I will send a message with the link prior to your class time. No Zoom class today. There are a lot of you that are still having some technology issues. Today is our day to fix them and make sure we can all take photographs, edit them and turn them in. If you completed our first project, today just take a few more pictures and practice editing them in Lightroom. If you have not turned in last weeks project, check in with me today so we can get you back on track. Send me a message and let me know how I can help you...Computer issue, Adobe issue, etc. If I don't hear from you first thing today, you and your parents can expect communication from me. We need to get you and your equipment working.
In your classes on Thursday and Friday we will review how to create and share an album from Lightroom. Before we leave class, you should have shared your first photographs with me. This wi the way that all projects will be turned in during our distance learning phase of school. If you are editing on a computer using Lightroom Classic, then please watch the video in the link below.
Sharing a Gallery from Lightroom Classic On Tuesday (1A) or Wednesday(1B, 2B,4B) we will meet on Zoom and go over expectations. I will email an invitation for the Zoom meeting. Everything that we are planning to do over the next few weeks can be done on a Smartphone. Please download Lightroom (it is free) and sign in with your Adobe account. If you use the camera function in Lightroom, then the whole process will be very easy. Shoot pictures, edit on your phone, then share your favorites with me. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality of images we can create on your phones.
If you have missing projects you can do them on your phone and share them with me the same way as new projects. MANY of you have MANY missing assignments, and it reflects in your grades. If you show up and do the work this quarter, you will pass the class. Let me know how I can help you and I will! I just can't shoot the pictures or edit them for you. You must do that. 1B Padlet link: https://padlet.com/tmoffett/1bq1 2B Padlet link: https://padlet.com/tmoffett/2bq1 4B Padlet link: https://padlet.com/tmoffett/4bq1 The final project is a mini portfolio of 5 new images. These must be new, no archived images. You will apply everything that we have learned this semester about the elements and principles of art, composition (Rule of Thirds and Simplicity), and Lightroom editing. When photographing, select your subject and make at least 15 different images of that subject, and then move on to another subject. Each finished image must be accompanied by a contact sheet showing the best 15 photographs of each subject.
The second image for the Elements of Art project is due today. This one focused on Space, Color and Texture. Make sure to complete a contact sheet of your best 12 photographs and also turn in your very best edited image. You should always edit three images before selecting your best one to turn in. Prior to lab time, we reviewed the process of turning in contact sheets and final images.
Next class we will be learning about the Principles of Art and Design, so look them up and be ready for a discussion. Today we reviewed the Photo History Scavenger Hunt and discussed briefly the "Major Players" in the invention and development of photography. A few of the important people and things involved in the discovery and progression of photography through the ages include the Camera Obscura, Joseph Nicephore Niepce, Daguerre, Johann Heinrich Schultz, John Herschel, George Eastmond, James Clerk Maxwell, and the Lumiere Brothers.
We also began making pinhole cameras, which we will try to finish next class period, then we will spend a couple of days making photographs with them. Please bring a box for your pinhole camera if you have not already done so! Today we will explore the mundane, and attempt to find the magic in it! Click here to watch a video introducing what mundane really means. Mundane really means just the everyday things in life that we experience. If we are observant and really live in the moment, make the most of the now so that we won't have regrets later, we will find many "magical" moments and objects that will make great photographs. The following two blog posts will help you with this project. Read them and then go out and make a set of photographs showing the magic in the mundane. Pay close attention to light, as this can really make or break a photograph. Remember, we are drawing with light!
Finding The Magic In The Mundane Why it is so freaking hard The project we will start on today is all about the importance of color in a photograph. Read this article on color to better understand the use of color in photography. Using the internet, research the meaning and symbolism of color and then go out and search for images (take photographs) where the color is meaningful. You will need to create two finished images, one using an analogous color scheme and one with a complementary color scheme. These images are due on Jan. 27th for A day and Jan 28th for B day.
